UNESCO INTERNATIONAL GEOSCIENCE PROGRAMME
SPANISH WORKING GROUP IN PROJECT 513:
KARSTIC AQUIFERS AND WATER RESOURCES

AIMS

The main aim of UNESCO Project IGCP 513 is to contribute to a better understanding of karst resources in the world, especially those concerning water, and to promote ideas, experiences and techniques for achieving solutions to environmental problems in karstic areas. A transdisciplinary working methodology is proposed, preferentially focused on the following aspects:

1) The importance of hydrology in the functioning and preservation of karstic ecosystems
2) Water supply in karstic regions
3) Environmental problems concerning water in karstic areas


Karstic sinkhole in the Zafarraya Polje, an area that is vulnerable to contamination
